“The peace and quiet was the antidote I needed to detox from city life. All there was to disturb me was the hum of the bees.”

Puissentut sits nestled amongst the rolling hills of the Gers in sunny, south-west France.

The Gers is a rural idyl. It's economy is largely agricultural-based and if you arrive in early Summer you'll be bowled over by the vibrancy of field upon field of sunflowers. The air is fresh, the climate is gentle and the pace of life is slow. The combination of good quality produce, out-door living, and few stresses has made the region famous for the longevity of its people. You'll often see elderly couples still tending their fields and vegetable patches. Local delicacies include foie gras, duck, armagnac and floc.

The rolling countryside peppered with medieval villages clinging to rocky ridges is evocative of Tuscany. The larger villages and towns all have weekly markets which are full of local produce and are the social highlight of the week, with farmers from all around coming to sell and buy and congregate on street corners and in bars to catch up on the news.

The Gers is not on the tourist map which means you have an authentically French experience, yet it is very easy to get here.

Toulouse (Blagnac) airport is only 50 minutes away by car and is serviced by a good range of major and low-cost airlines. Or you can hop on the TGV from Paris and arrive at Agen or Toulouse (Matabiau).

We’ll arrange transport to pick you up and bring you to Puissentut, but if you’re staying for a while it’s worth renting a car.

“The Gers is a sublimely beautiful area of rolling hills punctuated by sunflower fields. If I had to describe it in a sentence I'd say "the land of a thousand views", as reaching the top of each hill reveals a new view, different to the last.”
